The Best Guacamole!
Who doesn’t love the creamy, fresh texture and taste of an avocado? In case you didn’t know, avocados have been claimed as one of the healthiest foods on the planet! When you mash it up and add some flavor, it becomes the most heavenly food ever, GUAC! Grocery stores sell prepackaged guacamole that is loaded with preservatives and natural flavors to keep it fresh, but why not throw together this quick and easy recipe with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.
This is one of our favorite snacks not only because it tastes good, but because it’s packed with healthy vitamins, minerals and good fat! We believe that you should know what you are putting into your body, so here’s a just a few reasons to start/keep smearing guacamole on everything, from your veggies to taco salads.
- Oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat in avocados actually quiets hunger-which can help with weight loss
- Anti-inflammatory properties help our bodies keep inflammation under control (inflammation is what causes all disease and pain in our bodies)
- Fights against free radicals that can cause cancer
- Promotes Blood Sugar Regulation-which helps stabilize our mood and metabolism
- The healthy fats and enzymes help digest and absorb more of the nutrients in our food
- Helps lower risk of heart disease
Our perfected guacamole recipe (inspired by Chipotle!):
3 Large avocados (they don’t have to be organic since pesticides have a hard time getting past the scaly outside of an avocado)
1/3 cup red onion (less if you don’t like onions)
1 handful cilantro
1-2 small garlic cloves minced
½ of a fresh squeezed lime (most important part-gives it that yummy zest!)
1 jalapeño pepper or red pepper flakes (optional if you like it spicy)
1 teaspoon of cumin (optional if you want some extra authentic flavor)
Himalayan Sea Salt to taste
Slice each avocado horizontally with a stainless steel knife, twisting around until the two halves are split. Take a knife and press into the seed, then twist the knife again to remove the seed. Use a spoon to scrape out the avocado meat and mash in a bowl until the texture is creamy. Add all your ingredients in with the mashed avocado and salt to taste. Now you can eat with any venue you’d like! We love to dip carrots and cucumbers in our Guacamole, but of course you can put it on anything!
Display guacamole on a pretty platter and garnish with fresh cilantro!
How to pick a ripe avocado:
A ripe, ready to eat avocado should be slightly soft to the touch where you can make an indent with your thumb but shouldn’t have any mushy spots or cracks. Look for avocados that have a slight neck, instead of completely round, this means it was ripened on the tree and will have the best flavor.
